This letter was sent home with students in preschool, through grade 5. We wanted to be sure everyone is aware of the change, so we're posting this here as well.

Boozhoo, CLB Families

We are so very excited with the progress on the new elementary school building.  We will be holding a number of open house opportunities for both students and families starting in April (tentatively).  We also plan to hold summer school for elementary students at the new building, and have a full out grand opening in the fall.  It is a beautiful building, and we are thrilled to be able to provide this 21st Century learning environment for our students.

We also acknowledge that such a move is a massive undertaking for staff. While the furniture and equipment will all be new and already at the new building,  we know that instructional materials need to be packed up, moved and unpacked in the new building. We have contracted with movers to do the work of physically moving these materials to the new building.  However,  we recognize that this takes time, organization and extra work on the part of our staff as well. In order to accomplish this, the school board approved a calendar change for students in grades Pre-K - 5.  The last day of school for these students is Friday, May 30th.  Students in grade 6 - 12 are scheduled for classes on June 2 - 5, as set in the original calendar.

We are able to do this change this year as we far exceed the state minimum requirements for instructional minutes and days in the affected grade levels. We also know that if we did this during the summer, there would be significant extra costs to pay staff for the work -- upwards of $200,000.  We understand that any change like this does affect families’ plans, which is why we wanted to give you sufficient notice.  While we don’t like to reduce our contact with children, we know that the reason for it is a good one.  We are so looking forward to welcoming your children back to school in the brand new building.

Miigwech, thank you, for your understanding.
