The 5:30 AM departure on MEA Saturday didn't stop these Panthers from letting their voices be heard at this season's initial Congressional Debate at DGF HS.
No one broke finals, but they worked hard on prep on the ride, spoke their truths, and still enjoyed the day. #CLBSpeech

Dear Members of the Cass Lake-Bena Community,
It is with heavy hearts that we write this letter to inform you that Cass Lake-Bena/Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig Schools’ football team will be ending its varsity season as of today. We will not be playing in the section playoffs. This decision was made after discussions with the team captain, coaching staff and administration. There have been multiple significant injuries that are severely impacting the team’s depth across the board. This decision has not been made lightly, but we must put the safety of our student athletes first. As it stands right now, we would be jeopardizing the future of our student athletes in upcoming seasons if we continue to play, and we simply cannot do that.
Our football players have portrayed the “next man up” mentality all season, with players stepping into unfamiliar roles when needed. We have had students playing football for the very first time this year, and students who have worked extremely hard since the beginning of the season. We are proud of their perseverance and the strength of character that they have displayed throughout the season. And, we are looking forward to the start of next season.
There will be a team meeting on Monday, prior to the end of school.
Sincerely,
Cass Lake-Bena Administration
Cass Lake-Bena Football Coaching Staff

On October 8th, Cass Lake ALC staff and students had a visit from Kevin Pelkey Executive Director of Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity from Brainerd. This is the branch that services the Cass Lake Area. Habitat is the 3rd largest producer of homes in the world. Kevin told the students how The lakes area Habitat for Humanity chooses countries to help and currently, they are helping Haiti, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. They don’t physically build houses in those countries but they send money and fundraise for those countries as well as themselves. The students learned of the extensive need for housing. The students learned that anyone 16 and older can hold a hammer and volunteer for Habitat. The more people that volunteer the better the turnaround on getting houses done. They average 6 house completions in a year. They currently have 9 projects going on and 4 homes are being built in the Cass Lake Area. Anyone who would like to volunteer can do so by filling out a form or stopping by the site where you see the van and saying hi to Tim.

The Cass Lake ALC was one of 11 schools that attended the 7th annual Future Forest Stewards event that happened during the Northstar logging expo. Students attended a variety of learning stations about all the variety the forest industry has to offer, including a virtual logging simulator.
